Fmr. Vice Pres. Al Gore Speech on Bush Presidency
Former Vice Pres. Al Gore delivers his final major policy speech of the campaign season. Mr. Gore critiques Pres. Bush's presidency in many areas, specifically Iraq, jobs retention and creation, the environment and people's trust in government.
10/18/2004: WASHINGTON, DC: 1 hr. 30 min.: C-SPAN

My comment (Bard): he immediately removes the commonly-held reasons why Bush ignores evidence that might show he's wrong in his policies or that he could have made a mistake: 1) he's not smart enough; 2) his religious faith doesn't let him. Gore says he's very shrewd, and that his faith has nothing to do with it. Watch the thing to see what Gore thinks is actually going on.

Thank you Kip & Bard for this wonderful re-visit to our country's troubled ex-VP's current state-of-mind. From your description and that most pithy one from the New York Times to follow, I'll skip the tape. It doesn’t pass my criterion for “TV stuff to wile the day away with”. As the Supreme Court judge once said, [Porn may defy definition] “…but you know it when you see it.” I’d rather spend the hour with Donald Trump's primer for young capitalists, "The Apprentice".

Just for the heck of it though, I’ll post a reward to either of you for $500 if you can prove the entire premise of any one of Gore’s three quotes below, assuming they are accurate and not out of context. This doesn’t include proving Gore “is convinced”.

And, if not, you can each donate $50 to a charity as punishment for extending the dissemination of such tripe via an upstanding blog.

And for the record: What is a “sponsored speech”? Shouldn’t his sentence read “used them”, not “used it” to be correct English?

Gore Accuses Bush of Masking Agenda

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 - Former Vice President Al Gore accused President Bush on Monday of using "the symbolism and body language of religion" to mask policies intended to satisfy the ideology of the right wing and the financial needs of wealthy campaign donors.

"The essential cruelty of Bush's game is that he takes an astonishingly selfish and greedy collection of economic and political proposals, then cloaks them with a phony moral authority, thus misleading many Americans who have a deep and genuine desire to do good in the world," Mr. Gore said in a speech at Georgetown University.

He added, "President Bush has stolen the symbolism and body language of religion and used it to disguise the most radical effort in American history to take what rightfully belongs to the American people and give as much as possible to the already wealthy and privileged."

Mr. Gore's speech was sponsored by the advocacy group MoveOn.org, which has spent millions of dollars in an effort to defeat Mr. Bush.

"I'm convinced that most of the president's frequent departures from fact-based analysis have much more to do with right-wing political and economic ideology than with the Bible," Mr. Gore said.
